Fernie is a small town (pop 5000) located in the South Eastern corner of British Columbia. It is nestled in middle of the Elk Valley which runs roughly north south through the Canadian Rockies. Part of the Western side of the valley is made up by the Lizard range and on this range is the Fernie Snow Valley ski resort.

At the base of the ski resort is a small subdivision called Timberline Village and that is where we live. Although there are a few of us who live here full time, the majority of the homes are rented out as ski chalets. Some of them are pretty nice as can been seen from the Radchenko's page. Our abode is more modest, but still pretty comfortable and has a great front yard for playing it and forest behind for an in the bush sort of feel.

Home Sweet Home
Although Fernie was
a mining town and the major economic driving force still comes from the mines further up
the Elk Valley in Sparwood and Elkford, it is becoming known for fine powder skiing and
great terrain. What often surprises people is when I say I actually prefer the summer.
There seem to be endless opportunities for mountain biking, hiking, dirt biking, swimming,
rafting and kayaking and fishing to name a few. I don't golf, but I have been told that
the local golf course
is also pretty decent.
Fernie has only recently been blessed with local Internet connection thanks to the good folks at Kootenay Business Systems (check out their slide show for more area pictures), so there aren't too many local WWW pages yet. As I learn of more I will try to add them to these pages.
BTW the picture to the right is definitely the kind of skiing I love, but that is not me. It is another picture from a ski hill brochure.
